MANDELA REMEMBERED
MANDELA REMEMBERED
On wings of hope unfettered
He soars now towards the sun
His daily battles made manifest
A fight that is not yet won
The streets were not stained with blood
But flowing in rivers of red
It seemed a madness never to be stopped
An injustice never to be shed
After 27 years in a prison cell
A terrorist and thug he was called
But when released that brilliant smile
Was for much more than leaving the gray walls
It was for hope of better days to come
A dream of making his country one
Many doubted his words that day
But he knew that it would be done
When asked how he would seek revenge
For the years of torture and strife
He smiled once more and said I must forgive
Lest my soul be imprisoned for life
